V10 BMW E30 520bhp
Bored, fed up and nothing on TV. Fed up with the playstation (at leased until GT5 is released). I decided to search YouTube to find something to widen my eyes, and I did. Some chap has got his hands on the BMW V10 that sits inside an M5 (an engine that makes a two ton car reach 200mph if de-restricted) and strapped it to his 1100kg BMW E30, returning a fantastic power to weight ratio. He has a bag to cement in the boot to help traction at the back, drilled and vented disc at the front and new seats. This must of cost quite a bit to produce, not to mention getting his hands on one of the best engines ever! But the final results are brilliant, he sees off almost everything apart from the most tuned super cars. Can I have a drive? Please?

New Bentley get teeth like jaws
For Crewe’s design and engineering teams, the new Continental GT coupe is an opportunity to set a bold and exciting direction for one of Bentley’s most revered names – the Continental. The seminal and highly successful Continental GT introduced in 2003 represented the first step in Bentley’s renaissance and defined a whole new market segment. It was a luxury GT offering excellent usability that remained true to the Bentley grand touring spirit.
Now the new Continental GT 4-seat coupe builds on the success of its iconic predecessor, capturing that GT spirit but with even higher standards of design, engineering, luxury, craftsmanship, dynamic performance, everyday practicality and refinement.
A beautifully sculptured new body gives the GT coupe an even crisper, more defined appearance. The contemporary interior offers new levels of cabin design, comfort and hand-crafted luxury. The seats, for example, provide even greater support and rear leg-room; a sweeping dashboard even more style and modernity. The new touchscreen infotainment system features state-of-the-art navigation, Google Maps and entertainment while the latest Balanced Mode Radiator speaker technology and Dirac Dimensions™ digital sound processing deliver enhanced audio quality.
Bentley’s acclaimed 6-litre, 12-cylinder, twin-turbocharged powertrain now has a raised power output of 575PS (567bhp/423kW) and 700Nm (516lb ft) of torque and this is mated to a new Quickshift transmission which enables double downshifts. Thanks to advanced FlexFuel technology it can also run on both standard unleaded petrol (gasoline) and sustainable bioethanol (up to E85) or any mix of the two.
In late 2011 an all-new, high-output 8-cylinder engine will also be available to order. This advanced power unit will deliver a 40 percent reduction in emissions compared with the W12 engine and will offer a class-leading CO2 emissions-to-power ratio with Bentley levels of performance and refinement.
Both engines are coupled to an all-wheel drive system with a sporty 40:60 rear-torque bias (compared with the 50:50 bias of the original Continental GT), minimising understeer during hard cornering and allowing the experienced driver to control the car’s line and balance via precise throttle control.
“The new Continental GT is an automotive work of art, with superb craftsmanship and elegant, contemporary design. It drives like a supercar, but without the usual sacrifices in ride or practicality. It is a car that you can enjoy every moment of every day.”
Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen, Chairman and Chief Executive
Jag is way ahead of the pack
The exciting new Jaguar XJ has won the prestigious 2010 Car of the Year award from Professional Driver magazine, rating it as the top car for Britain’s chauffeurs and Private Hire drivers.
To receive the overall Car of the Year accolade, the winning XJ – a 3.0-Litre V6 Diesel Long Wheelbase model – not only defeated its nearest rivals in the closely-contested Chauffeur Car of the Year category, but it also gained the highest average score of the four individual award winners.
The annual Professional Driver awards are judged by more than thirty expert judges from the chauffeuring and Private Hire sector and the motoring media. Each vehicle is rated on 10 different criteria considered most important for professional drivers, ranging from appearance and driving dynamics, to rear seat comfort and legroom.
“The new Jaguar XJ makes a statement that none of its rivals can match,” said Mark Bursa, editor of Professional Driver Magazine. “The judges loved the XJ’s looks, its beautiful and distinctive interior and outstanding driving dynamics.”
With the highest overall points score of the 33 vehicles entered, the Jaguar XJ 3.0-Litre V6 Diesel Long Wheelbase was rated the best car for professional drivers, outscoring competitors like Mercedes S350 LWB and BMW 730Ld, last year’s winner.
The Jaguar XF was also rated highly by the judges, finishing in the top three of the competitive Executive Car category.
Geoff Cousins, Managing Director, Jaguar UK, said: “Professional drivers have very high standards and expect the best in their choice of car. The new Jaguar XJ has brought a bold new approach to the executive car market in the UK with its distinctive design, generous accommodation and impressive predicted residual values. Winning this important award isn’t just about recognising how impressive the new Jaguar XJ is, it also reflects how competitive our new class-leading Chauffeur Programme support package is.
“With our comprehensive support programme, which provides a class-leading combination of round-the-clock support and minimised running costs, Jaguar is now in a strong position to challenge the established contenders in the chauffeur market.”
The Audi A1 is here
The long wait is over: starting tomorrow, the Audi A1 will be available to test drive at Audi Centres in Germany. Deliveries will simultaneously begin in Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland, followed by most other mainland European markets from mid-September. The UK will receive its first cars in November.
The A1 impresses with its progressive design, superb workmanship and state-of-the-art infotainment technologies. It offers a vast number of possibilities for customization and can be ordered in over 800 different exterior versions.
“Reports from our international dealers show us that interest in the A1 is exceeding our expectations considerably,” commented Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG. “We will therefore increase our production capacity by 20 percent.”
Audi had previously expected average production volumes of 100,000 A1 units per year, primarily for the European market at first. However the new Audi will now also be launched in the Asia-Pacific region and in South America in early 2011. “And we are now also thinking about bringing this generation of the A1 to China,” added Schwarzenbauer. A total of 50,000 units are scheduled to roll off the production line in Brussels by the end of 2010.
The Audi A1 will be launched with three appealing engine options: the 1.2 TFSI, the 1.4 TFSI and the 1.6 TDI. Each engine features direct injection, turbocharging and a start-stop system with braking energy recovery. The A1 is the only car in its segment to combine a start-stop system with an automatic transmission.
Even in advance of its market launch, the new Audi has caused quite a sensation with more than 150,000 prospective customers worldwide having registered to receive information about its market launch and the latest campaigns.
Audi has also received the renowned “red dot award” for its direct marketing campaign for the A1 introduction. At the heart of the cross-media campaign was the circulation of a magazine series, also available online, that focused on the new model. The A1 commercial has been broadcast on television this week featuring music from the new band Torpedo. The exclusive song, called “An Invention”, was produced by A1 brand ambassador Justin Timberlake and can be downloaded for free at www.audi.de/a1
Aston Martin’s One-77 Supercar
Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.
The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.
Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 is engineered to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance. The dramatically styled two-door, two-seat sports coupe is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.
The One-77 is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world’s most desirable automotive art form.
As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples, with deliveries expected to commence in mid-2010.
